Let Them Eat Cake!! Or Is It “Off With Their “Eads?”
As I divide my day in dealing with fundraising, capital structuring, IT work, and other fun things that go along with starting a company (and yes we’re still around despite a multitude of slander, unbelievable fraud, and civil rights violations every three seconds or so) I do alot of research.
You see positioning a company, any company, in a political and economic climate right now, is dependent on several forces.
In a startup, there is for one thing, no such idea that something is “not in my job description.” You just do it. You have no choice.
Just like in fact in a democracy. If you don’t participate, or your participation is not widely noticed, counted, or seen as “legitimate” for whatever reason, you lose it.
The interesting thing about the blogosphere these days (lets’ face it, the place most of us get our news…I mean is TV even relevant anymore?”) is that people are very angry about what all of them see as more of the same under a slightly different name.
I actually read a story this morning, penned by some fraudulent crap head from Bain Capital who tried to explain that “investment” is what drives growth (read, another excuse for not increasing taxes on those who are escaping said responsibility like bandits….in fact many of the 99% are calling them that if not outright thieves). The response board on that article, I am relieved to say, was a hysterically funny collage of responses from readers who just aren’t buying it, mixed with the usual lone investor who (in this case) was called out as an enabler because this person was participating if not profiting in the hyping of hysteria by shorting stocks and engaging in “frothy” activity which is also making the global markets unsteady again.
The reality is that the overwhelming responders to the post (along with everyone who is not at the head of a huge corporation, or a senior political figure or member of the punditry class) gets the fact that the crap we are being now fed political pablum that doesn’t even taste good, much less is even close to nourishing.
In fact, the readers and responders on said boards on the Internet, are reflecting a sentiment that is widespread, but widely ignored by the “mainstream” press. And ignored by our “elected” officials.”
A concept that in itself is old fashioned. Actually both of them. Politics not only ain’t beanbag. It’ ain’t what it used to be.
And the venues through which most of us get our information these days is not what it used to be either. The “mainstream” has become watered down by the multitude of sources we now get our information from. No matter how easy it is to blame Fox news or the “liberal media.”
And despite perhaps not being any “smarter” and certainly not “richer” the rest of us are beginning, no matter what our other differences are, to understand that all that is going on in DC and the centers of power in this country, is that yet again, we are being given the political middle finger, if not told economically to suck it up and be grateful for the crumbs. Cake or bread.
Only one problem. The Plebes don’t like that Marie Antoinette Response. And recognize it for what it is.
And if our political leaders don’t get it, I can assure you they soon will. Corporate twerps who make dumb comments about healthcare these days are finally waking up and getting the message. Even if they mistake the roar of a crowd for a loner or two with a big microphone.
If they attended private, institutional centers of graduate education in this country of the Ivy League Variety, then they will know of a man by the name of Robespierre (the instigator of the French Revolution) who took a dim view of Marie Antoinette’s attitude towards the peasants daily diet, compared with her over the top preference for powered, extravagant hair styles (John Edwards of the world take note). In 1789, the response by the mob was “off with her ‘ead.” Just like the mobs in England who dethroned Charles I, and head begetting was still considered socially acceptable. Along with public lynchings, burning “heretics” at the stake, dunking “witches”, the Spanish Inquisition, should I continue?
The reality is we have reached a critical point in the history of the world’s oldest “Democracy.” Which is, I remind you, not yet 300 years old.
A blink of an eye, in other words.
And now get ready for another “blink.”
The decisions made over the next few months, if not next four years will determine, literally the destiny of the planet if not the survival of the human race. America is not the only country who is going to make all the decisions.
Right now, as I personally face destruction in less than four months unless I pull off the deal of a lifetime, I think about that alot.
I have been driven to penury and poverty by a state if not nation that doesn’t seem to think it matters whether I live or die. Whether I have civil rights or not. Or whether the policies of either the federal government, the state government, or the debates about the same should be required to include me, or let me fall by the wayside if I don’t fit in.
As a gimp, and a woman, with an international background and education and professional view, I am and always have been a round peg in a square hole (or vice versa) all of my life.
As the child of a family that disappeared about age 11 or so, for all intents and purposes, I didn’t have a childhood that many of you would recognize. I grew up fast and way too soon.
But in the end, no matter what the individual circumstances, I am willing to bet if you strip the particulars, my life is no different than most of yours in many ways.
I am an individual with my own story, just like you.
But what we are facing right now is the inevitable end of the road for policies that have been fiercely debated for the entire history of our short lived democracy (in the vast span of things).
In some stuffy, academic circles, some “posit” that we’ve always been “an experimental” democracy.
Some would argue we have never as a country achieved the lofty goals the “founding fathers” set for us (while owning slaves, treating women as “property” and being remarkably religiously intolerant themselves.)
Some would argue we have made great strides when an African American (sort of) is the President of the US, and the specter of Hillary (oh, god, another round of THAT MARIE ANTOINETTE running for the White House??) is looming strongly . Disagree? Did you see that woman’s hair style as she praised Ambassador Rice and pimped that woman who supported the appalling events in Benghazi (know where that is on the map)?
It’s not that I care about what Hillary’s hair looks like, or for that matter her ankles.
What angers me so much right now is that we are actually dealing with less a “shadow” government than a shell of one.
Government does not work.
I can’t tell you how many people I have called lately who literally contradict policy on government websites they think I can’t read, and in fact have them listed as the “contact person.”
When this kind of behavior is touted as “government in action” (by any party) you know you have problems.
To quote a friend of mine lately, who came up with a phrase I have not yet uttered in public myself but know to be the truth in what I am seeing and experiencing, “The world is broken.”
Yes. It is.
And I’m not sure that the current leaders of our country, our state, or even our municipalities even get that.
We do. THEY do not. Simple. That is the problem.
Want the crumbs some more? Or maybe some BS previously called “trickle down?” SOME MORE?
Personally I don’t. I’m hungry and thirsty because that crap doesn’t work. And never has. It’s called Concentration Camp working conditions, slave labor, and no seat at the table. Dinner or Boardroom variety. Doesn’t matter.
But I know my limits, and my duties. I do not ask to gorge at a feast of plenty.
All I ask, along with many of my fellow Americans, is when is this going to stop.
And I will put my dying breath into stopping what I see is the inevitable end of this ridiculous, incestuous, fiddling.
Rome is burning folks. And powdered hairstyles are on their way out.
Just like cake.
