A new study has found that 70% of supermarket sourced ground beef also contains the substance.

Oh, but for those gourmets who haven’t heard the news, or think this is the name of a new horror movie (in some ways, it is) what the term commonly refers to these days is the additive contained in alot of industrially produced ground meat product that is constituted from parts of the animal butchers reject (even better right?), treated with ammonia to kill all the germs (which part of the animal exactly goes into it?)

And then consumed by ordinary, unsuspecting Americans when they bite into a juicy, good ol’ American hamburger.

If you say “Ewwwwh” you are not alone.

What’s worse is that current labeling laws allow this “meat substitute” to go unmarked on meat that mixes this questionable goo into regular old beef (antiobiotic induced or not), to stretch the volumn.

If you say “fraud” you are also not alone.

This latest revelation of the horrors our Frankenfood culture has bestowed on our basic foodchain, with all of us normal schlubs in on the know at the last moment, means that not only have you probably ingested the stuff, but also pushes normal folks even faster to the burgeoning “slow food” if not “organic” bandwagon.

Even if you’re not a vegetarian.

For those who still enjoy our (mostly) guilt free burger now and again, the answer to this problem is also called “buy Kosher.”

But for those of non Yid descent, the best bet is to be aware.
